I moved to the Gunflint Trail to be a cook at Trail Center in 1995 and returned for the next four summers while attending the University of Iowa the rest of the year. Upon graduating with a degree in Journalism I moved to Key West, Florida to pursue a career in commercial fishing for Yellowtail Snappers. Four years of migrating back and forth from Key West to Northern Minnesota I decided to begin guiding and went to school for a Captains License. Guiding year round was a dream come true, but the traveling and renting began to wear on me and I wanted to settle down. I chose to hang my hat up on the Gunflint Trail, met my wife, Rachelle, and we built our first home. Later we had a beautiful daughter named Sophia and a son named Robert aka “Bo”. Our family has been living full time up here for the past 8 years and we could not be happier.
